I guess you'll be thrilled to know it won't be set in the new universe you oh so dislike but I'm hoping it's set in the 25th century. I can't wait for more news about it.

It doesn't specify which universe it will take place in, only that it's not related to the upcoming film. We can only hope that it will take place in the universe that we all know! A new series based around the new universe would split fans further than the films did.

Alex Kurtzman will be Executive Producer, so it might be set in the new universe. The article only says the series won't be related to the new movie.

I don't subscribe to the 'any new series is a good thing" standpoint. I'm very picky about what I watch on TV. I reserve judgment when we'll know more details, but the one thing we do know, that a producer from the new movies is pitching this series, is not a good sign for me.

So like anything old that I liked that is being rebooted, I am very cautious and keep my expectations low. Past experiences have taught me this good lesson. I am also old and crochety :emoticon_ShiftyEyes

Also, Trek is notorious for being 'meh' until 3rd season...

I personally wouldn't mind if it was a remake of TOS or a new universe. Unless they take the risk to go further down the current timeline (Without shoehorning as many past characters as possible) and do new stuff then they have no other choice but to reboot it. It looks promising though.

Hmmm never been a fan of JJ Trek personally. Don't think I'll enjoy it as much as TNG, VOY etc. That was the Trek I grew up with. Don't get me wrong the JJ Trek is cool for newer audiences but I just prefer the cast of TNG as I can relate to them more so than the new cast.

However that being said I will reserve judgement until the show launches I could be wrong and it might be amazing.

What worries me is that in the US it is only going to be available on CBS' subscription service which only recently hit the 100,000 subscriber milestone which means the potential audience in the US which is a pretty major territory will be tiny especially given the fact that Enterprise got cancelled due to poor viewing figures yet it's least viewed episode pulled in 2.53 million viewers.

Obviously I hope the show will be great but CBS has a history of poorly managing Star Trek, Alex Kurtzman is yet to convince me he understands Star Trek (although working with JJ and Orci meant he probably never had much chance of demonstrating that) and the subscription service only availability all concern me.

I think the phrase "Expect the worst, hope for the best" would apply. There aren't many new tv shows that I watch, mainly because tv is flooded with so-called reality shows.

I am willing to give the new series a try. However, given the history of entertainment executives doing things for the sake of ratings (or things that make no sense) I am not getting my hopes up.

The next chapter of the Star Trek franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.

this sounds to me like itll run 1st in the net then tv a week or less later. kinda like an early access thing
