CHAIN OF COMMAND

After a quick walk around through most of the August’s decks, thankfully encountering few of its crew, Keash felt like the ship accepted him for lack of better words. Despite Keash’s loathing disapproval of superstition that thought somehow relaxed some of the tension he was feeling heading into his new job.

At that he had gone to the turbolift and ordered it to go to the bridge. Moments later the swoosh of the door revealed the bridge before him, the only indication it had actually moved from place to place. The conn was held by a Junior Lieutenant from the Ops department, besides an ensign from engineering and another from the science department there was no one else there.

The arrival of the newly appointed Captain was apparently one of the last things the trio holding down the proverbial fort were expecting - if their reaction at seeing said Captain step off the turbolift onto the bridge was any indication.

The human Lieutenant JG turned almost marble-white and nearly fell of the center seat she had been lounging until then, and the face of the human engineer turned a shade of red almost inhuman in hue even as he seemed engrossed in his tricorder. Keash decided not to mention the tricorder wasn’t turned on.

Before any of the three could begin to really embarrass themselves Keash showed them a friendly smile. "As you were. I'm not on duty yet officially. Just getting to know the girl.“ he said waving his hands to indicate the ship.
"I'll be in the ready room, carry on.“ Keash added and walked over to the office just of the bridge which would be where much of his time on duty would be spent when he wasn’t on the bridge.

As the doors shut behind him he relaxed his stance a bit. The ready room had been emptied of all personal belongings of Captain Greener, the owner of the big shoes Keash was reminded to be filling earlier by the August’s chief tactical officer, Jolan Trask. As it was the room felt barren; inanimate to Keash and he hoped that adding some personal touches later would remedy that. For now the room would serve its purpose just fine.

Keash stepped behind the desk and keyed on the computer console on the desktop. He checked the chronometer to see how long he had before the scheduled time he had set for his first meeting with his new first officer, who as of yet was unaware of his new career opportunity, and saw he had nine minutes before the appointed time, 06:30 ship-time.

He decided to use that time to make the first official entry in the captain’s log and see if there were any messages for him to take care of in the federation message service...

COMMANDER AND ENGINEER

Commander McClintock strode into the expansive main engineering decked out now in red trim for his uniform instead of the usual yellow, and included a third pip. It was a hive of activity, yet it took less than a glance for the crewmen and junior officers to make way for the towering Scotsman as he made his way past the walls enclosed with consoles to the warp core, where he found Samuel Quinn.

"I see you're wasting no time in getting us space-worthy after a..difficult time."

Quinn pushed the dilithium articulation frame closed and hit the button on the console to secure it. The console beeped and Quinn turned and replied with a laugh. "No, Sir. Just doing standard maintenance, it's just a pain in the, uh, rear, Sir." Sam intentionally censored himself as he noticed the fact that McClintock had received a third full Pip. He asked, "Sir, What can I do for you?"

SUNSET

Timeline: 4 Years Ago, June 4th, 2405

Tabor sat in the meditation garden looking at the setting sun, meditating on the journey ahead. He had just arrived at the monastery, the only Bajoran one on Earth, recently built by the Kendosan order. Tabor's concentration was interrupted by the sound of footsteps.

"Laren," a familiar voice said as he stood next to Tabor, "It's good to see you again."

"Vedek Rega," Tabor answered with a smile, "The pleasure is all mine."

The Vedek smiled and sat down next to Tabor. "What brings you to our home, Laren?"

Tabor turned back towards the setting sun, pointing at the horizon. "An end to one path, and the beginning of another."

"I see," the Vedek responded looking out at the sunset, "So you are staying with us until the dawn?"

"Indeed," Tabor replied softly, understanding the Vedek's meaning, "My sunrise begins in two days. I've resigned my position from the University to follow my calling..." he paused for a moment in contemplation before pointing to the stars, "out there."

EXECUTIVE BUSINESS

A few days after meeting and assigning the new chief engineer McClintock still found himself dealing with the administrative burden the executive office held. Despite the huge boost the promotion would give to his rather stalled career he couldn't help thinking it had been a mistake to become little more than Foultish's glorified secretary.

His huge six-foot-four frame strained against the padded chair in his officer's quarters as he scrolled through the long to-do list on one padd and picked up another to finalize 'paperwork' which Captain Greener had passed along to Foultish and inevitably ended up in McClintock's hands.

It was authorization for a leave of absence of two senior officers - Lieutenant Commander Lyden and Lieutenant Nogumo - who were both likely halfway back to Earth by now on one of the freighters that had survived the Klingons going back for colony supplies. Although the official reason were simple enough McClintock had worked with both of them long enough to know the real reasons involved themselves personally and the trauma of Lyden losing his brother and more. As he signed the order and queued it for transmission to Starfleet he hoped they would find the peace they both deserved, and only hoped he and Anna could someday enjoy the same.

Tossing the padd aside onto his desk for the next chore he found it was a promotion request put forward by the previous chief engineer but more recently updated with the backing of Lieutenant Commander Quinn and his signature. Reading through her recent accomplishments and reasons McClintock could only arch an eyebrow in surprise, wondering how Jeanette Callaway could have been overlooked for so long. He immediately authorized her promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade and a commendation for her engineering work thus far.

With the backlog of administrative work finally caught up, the executive officer breathed a sigh of relief until he caught a glimpse of the more recent padds stacked on his desk. After ordering a raktajino from the replicator he settled in for the long haul and started from the top, continuously tempted to join the lithe figure slumbering in the bed they more than occasionally shared.

EDIBLE MEDICAL

Josh was currently surveying the build site. He had a schematic of the Medical Center and it looked like a total mess to him. "Who the hell thinks this is an efficient layout for a Medical Center?!" he yelled, "William, who in the engineering corps approved this pile of dog crap?!"

Commissioner Sullivan looked through his files on the hospital looking for a name "Looks like it was a Lieutenant Commander Kenson who worked on the internal design." he replied.

"Seriously?" Josh questioned, then he sunk his head and tapped his combadge.

=^= "Broughm to B'Lor. We have a problem with the design of the Medical Center. Mind coming down & having a look?" =^=

Within a few moments the doors to the Operations tent opened and out came Torinth, pausing for a moment to straighten her uniform before walking over to the site for the Center.

Looking the men up and down Torinth replied. "What's the problem here gentleman?"
